  • Flag:  The Italian tricolored flag of green, white and red represents hope, faith and charity  –  the three theological virtues. It also symbolizes the country’s plains and and hills (green), the snow-capped Alps (white), and the blood spilt during the Wars of Italian Independence (red). The flag came from the original design by Napoleon, whose favorite color was said to be green.
