Lake Eikeren is a deep and elongated lake located between the counties of Viken and Vestfold. As such, it is the largest one in Vestfold. We originally wanted to follow a geocaching trail, but, as it was mid-April, the grounds were still covered in thick, wet snow. Not dressed for the occasion, we went for a walk along the coast instead. We caught a glimpse of Hakavik hydroelectric powerplant, a little stream surrounded by much snow and nature, and an old, abandoned saw mill.
It took around 45 minutes to drive to Hakavik Power Station, which we chose as a starting point. On the way, we saw parachuters on top of Knabben (mountain). They’re barely visible on the photo below, but they’re there.

I actually wanted to visit the Hakavik Power Station. Unfortunately, it was closed that day. The station was opened in 1922 and delivers all of its production to the municipalities of Asker, Skollenborg in Kongsberg, and Sande.
We were hoping to walk on dry grounds, but King Winter was not ready to say goodbye. So we turned around and found no geocaches. Boohoo…

We walked on the road adjacent to the lake, admiring nature and just wandering and chatting about anything between heaven and earth. Or as Norwegians say it, alt mellom himmel og jord. The phrase sounds better in Norwegian.
We came across a little stream, some dilapidated cabins, a couple of houses sitting far apart from each other, and finally, an old saw mill.

We love the sound of gushing water. 🙂 The adventurous spirit of my husband led him to investigate the sawmill further. I stayed on the ground, where there was less climbing and sliding. On walks like this in Norway, you’ll never know what you’ll find.

Lovely bushes in early spring around the area! Satisfied by the many breaths of fresh air and interesting things we saw, we went home and enjoyed dinner in our favorite Indian restaurant.

It was a short, refreshing roadtrip. More to come!
