September is a beautiful month for roadtripping in Europe. During this 2-week travel, we also covered some of the Balkan countries and learned a great deal about each country in our route. We reached mainland Europe via Color Line ferry (Larvik-Hirtshals), and drove to Aalborg in Denmark, where we spent the night. Thankfully, it was a smooth sailing – and we were graced with a beautiful sunset, pretty much like last year!

Here’s our route for this trip, c/o Google Maps:

We delivered the kitts to the cathotel at 10 am, had Missan the car a nice wash, and drove on to Larvik port. Leaving the kitts never gets easier..

Our departure time was at 5:30 pm, but check in latest an hour before. Last year, we visited a nearby white-sand beach while waiting for the ferry. This year, we took a stroll along the inner port in Larvik and visited the Larvik church. The church was built in 1677, but the belltower was added in 1762. It can accommodate around 450 people. It was a Monday, and the church was closed. We walked around it, then, moved on to the port.

Larvik is a very nice Norwegian city, and I feel like it’s hotter than Drammen in winter. Although it might also be windier due to its close proximity to the open sea. In the inner port (indre havn), we promenaded along the bay. It was lined with art installations and playgrounds. There were many joggers young and old on a Monday afternoon.

The city of around 48,000 inhabitants support diversity and it’s lovely. Still too early to check in, so we went to the AMFI Larvik mall and enjoyed some hot chai latte, cool iced tea and cinnamon bun!

I wanted to blog simultaneously, but it’s challenging to enjoy the travel experiences when I have to sit down and blog. So, I almost always blog a few days (or weeks) after the trip, so I can reflect and fully appreciate the entire journey. However, I’m beginning to notice that my memory is becoming fuzzier as I get older. I should probably try not to wait very long before documenting the trips. hehe

We drove on the port at 3:30 pm, but still had to wait in line for a few more minutes. At around 4pm, the highspeed ship was ready for boarding.

It wasn’t our first trip with Color Line. We were already familiar of its interior. We enjoyed some dinner and just waited for the 3 hours and 45 minutes to pass. Something unfortunate happened while we were on the boat, by the way. My tooth crown fell off. Darn. Something unlucky usually happens to me when I go to Denmark. I was hoping we’d find a dental clinic which could fix it early the next day.

Anyway, here are some shots from the ferry ride. The sunset was, as usual, amazing when crossing the Skagerrak.

It was dark when we reached Denmark. A few more minutes on the road and we reached the city of Aalborg. We stayed in Aalborg City Rooms ApS, which was quite difficult to find. We also had to park on the roadside a few blocks from the building. Hopefully, our car would survive without break-ins and such. It’s Denmark, so our hopes were high (and Denmark did not disappoint!). We made it past the main door using the code that was sent to us. Then, a few steps up was the accommodation rooms. Another guest (or maybe the owner?) opened the inner door for us. We were making a few noises trying to open the door. haha

So, that’s how the first day went. It was a bit tiring, but we were excited to start the second day (well, after the dentist appointment). That was the first agenda of Day 2. 🙂 Until the next entry!
