On the 12th day of our roadtrip, we continued the trip back home, driving the Czech Republic and spending the night in Owschlag, Germany. We visited a city with so many consonants in its name – Delitzsch, which I hope I pronounce correctly IRL. It’s an old town, first mentioned in 1166, although it is said to have been founded in 1200 AD. It has a beautiful baroque castle, and a zoo with a large petting enclosure, walk-in aviaries and natural barriers.

Here’s our route for the entire roadtrip in September, c/o Google Maps:

As mentioned in previous entries, CZ is one of our favorite countries. We had a lovely time, no matter how brief, in Lovosice and Litoměřice. We talked about visiting again in the future. The accommodation was exceptional, despite the howling youngsters so late at night. We left “Ubytování Cukrovar” with this review: “Very spacious room. Secured place. Free parking. Some rowdy kids late at night, but they were harmless.” We left the place a little past 7am, dropped some postcards, and found ourselves on a beautiful ride across the border to Germany.

Approaching the border, we suddenly found ourselves in a foggy situation, literally. I don’t know if it had something to do with altitude, but whatever it was, it was beautiful. It looked and felt like a movie – a misty surrounding with the sun delicately creeping from behind the clouds. My husband drove carefully through it. We had the same experience in Iceland, but that took a longer and more creepy course.

When the fog cleared up, we were in good, old Germany.

A couple of hours later, we decided to stop by and check out Delitzsch. It was another random itinerary that day. Luckily, we never run out of places to visit – there’s always a stone unturned! Its Baroque Castle is dubbed, “Saxony’s most beautiful ladies’ palace”. It’s moated, and built in the 14th century. I wanted to explore the interior, but Carl was not up to it. So, we used the loo, checked out the souvenir shop, and walked away. Groups of tourists started to pour in, so we left unnoticed. Sometimes, that’s just how it is in traveling – you have to feel the vibe! I felt it boring at that time to go alone, so I didn’t. But sometimes, like for example, the hike to Svartifoss in Iceland, I went on my own when Carl was not feeling it. Sometimes, he does the same, venture on his own because I’m not in the mood. The adventures we did take together outweigh the ones we did alone, though. Here’s a mix of shots from the old town and the Castle:

The next site, I was sure that Carl wouldn’t say no to. He loves animals! The animal park boasts to call their animals on a first name basis. How sweet 🙂 It is 4 hectares in size, and open all year round. Also, it’s family-friendly, meaning, children can come up close to the animals and pet or feed them. Here’s a plan/map of the Delitzsch Zoo: https://tiergarten-delitzsch.com/lageplan-2/.

We bought some fish food, and watched as both ducks and fish fight for it. Then, we went to the goats to pet them.

There were skunks, rabbits, pigs..

… big aviaries with colorful, singing non-stop, birds..

… donkeys, camels, and flamingos!

It was a nice animal park, and it seemed like the animals were very used to humans. I particularly enjoyed the open-barrier dens and petting enclosures, as well at the aviaries. Although it seemed scary at first.

After the animal park, we went for some German fastfood nearby. It was around lunch time and we were starving. We found this hotdog kiosk with many good reviews. Afterwards, we continued the drive for a few more hours, enjoying some Kolonada round wafers from CZ, and then, dinner in a fancy basement pizza place in Rendsburg. It was a beautiful sunny day!

We retired at Hotel Seeblich Fösterhaus in Owschlag (again, so many consonants) a little before 8pm. The hotel has a nice terrace with a view of a nearby lake.

On the 12th day, we started to believe that we could actually make it home in 14 days. What a roadtrip! I’m excited to write about the final leg of the journey in September in the next entry. ALL PHOTOS AND VIDEOS ON THIS BLOG ARE MINE. Cheers! 🙂 #spreadloveandpositivevibes
