The day before we left Estonia, we got to know the old town a little bit more. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, owing to its well preserved medieval architecture and composition. Although the city has a medieval vibe with cobbled stones, some Gothic designs, fortresses and museums, the central area was teeming with people, vibrant and alive with restaurants, shops and activities. We also visited the beautiful Kadriorg Palace.
Before all these, we enjoyed a simple yet very delicious breakfast. Then, we took the tram to Kadriorg Palace.

Kadriorg Palace dates back to the 18th century. It was commisioned by the Russian czar Peter the Great as a gift for his wife Catherine, evt Catherine I. Designed by Italian architects, Nicola Michetti and Gaetano Chiaveri, and Russian architect Mikhail Zemtsov, the palace has a petrine Baroque style, characterized by simple and moderate designs and a planar two-colored facade. The style was favoured by Peter the Great, the first Russian czar to travel outside of the empire, and thus, was said to be influenced by foreign designs and architecture. At present, the palace serves as an art museum. We strolled in its refreshing gardens with fountains.

Afterwards, we traveled back to the Old City center. We already visited the Kiek in de Kök fortress museum on our first day, so we just admired it from outside, walking alongside the ancient walls. Here are some of the beautiful streets of the city:

There were many kiosks, shops and a whole square market. And museums and churches.

Many portions were still covered in cobble stones with stairs and rails, winding across the city.

Tired from all the careful walking, we decided to sit in an outdoor restaurant and enjoy some refreshments – sweet merienda paired with ginger beer. Super chilling just watching the passers by, and just enjoying the city atmosphere on that lovely June day in 2019. We also went geocaching. Later in the evening, we enjoyed some grilled finger foods.

The next day, we packed our bags and went home. It was a wonderful experience to get to know the Baltic country of Estonia. ❤ 🙂 ALL PHOTOS AND VIDEOS ON THIS BLOG ARE MINE. 🙂 #spreadloveandpositivevibes
