As our time living in Mjøndalen comes to an end, I can’t help but smile and share this entry about this district in Drammen kommune. We have actually thought of living here permanently at one point, but later on realized that it doesn’t really suit our taste in housing. Mjøndalen used to be its own kommune or municipality (Nedre Eiker), until it was “absorbed” by Drammen in 2020. Since then, I’ve noticed some decline in the favorability of the place, with lesser shops and smaller crimes happening more often. While living here, there was a point when theft happened often (the modus being pretending to buy stuff thru finn.no or online, meeting up with the seller and then mugging the seller). There was also a murder by the school’s parking lot. BUT generally, Mjøndalen is a very peaceful district, close to Drammen river and surrounded by nature and mountains.
After we sold our apartment in April 2024, we rented a hybel, which is the whole basement of a house here in Mjøndalen. The plan was staying here for a year, until we move to the cold, cold north. But life happened, and we took it as it went.. So, we’re leaving Mjøndalen earlier. In 25 days, actually. 🙂
Nevertheless, I enjoyed living in Mjøndalen, even for 10 months only. I prefer to remember it as a laidback place, where we went on geocaching adventures in its mountains and lakes 7-8 years ago, and where we built more dreams for the future later on. Before winter, I enjoyed walking on its streets. We came to like a kebab restaurant here, and I also liked the massage salon before I became pregnant. The small train station where I left off to get to other places, the bus station, and the short drive to Buskerud shopping mall. It’s a pleasant experience to be able to say that we did live her, even for a while. And by the way, I didn’t have good knowledge of videoediting, so pardon the noise from my keys and stuff. It was a delightful experimental period for me.
And hopefully, you would consider subscribing to my budding channel. Thank you – much appreciated!
