Here’s a 4-day itinerary for an awesome visit to the City of Smiles!
Day 1: Bacolod City (of Smiles), Manokan Country, Baywalk, Pope John Paul II’s tower.
Day 2: Mambukal Resort, The Ruins, ChinaTown, Bacolod City Hall, Provincial City Hall, SM City Bacolod.
DAY 3: Alijis, Panaad Park and Stadium, Bong-Bong’s Pasalubong, Hinigaran.
DAY 4: Balay Negrense, El Ideal Bakery, New Silay.
It’s time to see a little bit more of the city. According to Wikipedia, Bacolod comes from the word bakolod, meaning “a small hill”. With around 500,000 inhabitants, it is the 17th most populous city in the country (2015).
The Bacolod City Government Center replaced the Bacolod City Hall, and it’s open to the public. It is a huge building of Western style and has a big round fountain on its frontal facade.

Not far from the center is the Capitol Park and Lagoon. It was getting pretty dark when we walked towards the park, but we still managed to get there safely. We even passed by some attractions you might want to visit during the day, like the Negros Museum and the Provincial Library of Negros Occidental.

The provincial capitol of Negros Occidental is located in the heart of the city. It has a Romanesque design and served as the headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. It is also often considered the “most impressive building” in the city.

Across the capitol building is a beautiful lagoon. I was impressed by the lights and the statues, although it seemed very dark in the area at night.

We did a lot of sightseeing on Day 2, so we went to Bacolod Chinatown and SM City Bacolod for some refreshments and movie-watching!
