Taking a sightseeing cruise along the Daugava River in Riga, Latvia is highly recommended by tourists and locals alike. The river Daugava flows all the way from Russia, through Belarus, the Gulf of Riga, and into the Baltic Sea. It has a total length of 1, 020 kms, most of which passes through Latvia. As part of the Couchsurfing event, Riga Good Times VII, I was lucky enough to see the city from a different perspective.

As this was my first solo travel for leisure purposes, I had to plan my trip carefully. Fortunately, I found the Couchsurfing event organized by CSers in Riga. There were several activities, but I had to cautiously choose the right ones for me, so I crossed out all the party, sauna, and swimming sessions and participated on the cultural and educational ones — dinner at Nepal Good Time restaurant, a visit to the KGB Headquarter, Riga River cruise, and a trip to the Riga Ball of Flowers. That’s one thing I loved about CS — you are not forced or obliged to join in all of the activities, and the wide array give you the chance to choose what suits you best.

For €5, the CS group boarded the Jelgava boat to catch an amazing panorama of the city as seen from the river Daugava. A view of the old town from the River, the Riga TV and Radio Tower, which is the tallest structure in the EU, and several astounding bridges are some of the things to watch out for during the cruise. It was a rare opportunity to mingle with different people and at the same time, relax on a ferry boat trip. For details about the cruise: Cruise on the River Daugava. I let the photos speak for itself:

I have been a member of Couchsurfing since 2014, but I have never tried sleeping on other people’s couches. If there’s anything I love about the site, it’s the possibility of meeting other travelers and sharing travel tales and life stories. I also spent lots of my free time as an amateur tour guide to individual CSers in Copenhagen, and I like the meetup events. For one, it removes my solo traveling anxiety somehow, knowing that I’d meet at least one like-minded soul on the way.
Riga Good Times is an annual Couchsurfing event held in summer. In winter, the organizers hold the Riga Cool Times. Really catchy names! Through the event, I saw the city in a more engaging way!

This is all for today! Keep on cruisin’, baby! Cheers! ❤
