Here comes Day 10 of our roadtrip last summer. 🙂 We started the trip back home and left Karlovy Vary early in the morning. We didn’t have any specific plan, just did things spontaneously. That’s how we ended up checking out Leipzig Zoo, with breeding programs for more than 1,000 animal species. It also focuses on conservation and science and research. The city zoo dates all the way back to 1878.

Here’s our entire route for the trip, c/o Google Maps:

We had a nice night at Panorama Apartments. We gave it a 10, and here’s our review: “Spacious enough, free parking, good instructions on how to get in. Has a kitchen, though we didn’t use it. Can be noisy ‘coz of location – next to the road. No lift, but it’s ok. Good wifi.” For sure, it won’t be the last time we’re staying in apartments.

We reached Leipzig at around 11am. It’s a big German city – the 8th most populous in the country, and the birthplace of renowned musicians like Wagner. We decided to visit its zoo, founded by the innkeeper Ernst Wilhelm Pinkert in 1878.

The zoo is divided into 6 “theme worlds”: Founder’s Garden, Asia, Gondwanaland, Pongoland, Africa, and South America. The first one we visited was the Founder’s Garden, which has an aquarium, the Koala house, a terrarum, etc.

Gondwanaland was an amazing part of the zoo, in my opinion. The tropical vibes was hard to forget 🙂 It made me feel like “home”.

We had some delicious lunch by that theme world. They even had juice imported from the Philippines 🙂

With a happy and satisfied tummy, we explored the rest of the zoo and said hello to the amazing animals, all seemed to have been receiving good care from the keepers.

We could literally spend an entire day in a (good) zoo. More about Zoo Leipzig here: https://www.zoo-leipzig.de/en/animals-theme-worlds/zoo-of-the-future/.

We arrived in Wolfsburg at around 5:30 pm. That’s where we decided to spend the night. Wolfsburg is another big German city, known for having the world’s biggest car plant and for housing Volkswagen AG. More about the city in the next entry.

We stayed in Hotel & Restaurant Blume, where also enjoyed some fancy snacks.

So, that was Day 10. 🙂
